Zonin1821 with its impressing Tuscan Gastronomy Experience in Castello di Albola has been acknowledged by the prestigious Drinks International Wine Tourism Awards 2017 for Best Food and Wine Matching Experience. The Drinks International Wine Tourism Awards aim at recognising the estates that successfully implement wine tourism to support their main focus of wine making. The international judging panel commented on us being the winner in the category for Food & Wine Matching Experience: “It’s all about the region and the identity. It’s very well thought through. It’s a really rich, in depth, and all day experience”.

Zonin1821 wines did very well at the US Winemaker Challenge! This is a wine competition organized by Robert Whitley, publisher and managing partner of the Wine Review Online.
The Winemaker Challenge is part of the “Challenge” series of wine competitions conceived by syndicated wine columnist Robert Whitley. It joins Critics Challenge and Sommelier Challenge in delivering evaluation of wines from the unique perspective of three important sectors of the wine industry — winemakers, sommeliers and wine journalists — often looked to for professional analysis. ZONIN1821 wines has been named “2016 Impact Hot Brand” for the fifth year in a row by Impact magazine, and this year the “Hot Brand” award will be given to Prosecco Zonin (winner of the 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 editions) and to Castello del Poggio. This award – that highlights the tremendous growth the Zonin brand has achieved in the US market – is given by M. Shanken Communications (Wine Spectator Publishing House) annually to established brands that achieve superior sales growth and performance in the marketplace.
Every 2 years the German Publishing House Meininger publishes “Families of Wine”, a report on the most successful international families of wine. In the first months of 2017 the dossier will be distributed with the main Meiningers’ wine magazines (Weinwirtschaft, Weinwelt, Sommelier Magazine, Wine Business International, Fizz and Getraenke Zeitung). Neil Phillips – British wine expert (see his website www.thewinetipster.co.uk)-, visited many Prosecco producers and mentioned our Zonin Prosecco DOC Cuvée 1821 among the most interesting ones. See his report published in January/February issue of Glass of Bubbly, a Uk magazine dedicated to sparkling wines.
The prestigious Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate magazine has recently published the excellent results of Monica Larner‘s tasting of Castello di Albola wines:
- Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2013 – 93 points
- Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2012 – 91 points
- Il Solatio Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2012 – 90 points
The British wine journalist Monty Waldinwrote the article “Keeping cool in the Chianti Classico hills”, where he explains that Castello di Albola is one of the more proactive Estates dealing positively with the climate change in Chianti Classico. Furthermore he rated our Castello di Albola Chianti Classico Docg 2012 with 92 points. The article – in attachment – will be published in the Decanter’s Italy supplement which comes out along with the Decanter’s February issue.
The Master of Wine Bill Nesto wrote the essay “Chianti Classico: The Search for Tuscany’s Noblest Wine”, recently published by University of California Press (http://www.ucpress.edu/book.php?isbn=9780520284425).
Castello di Albola and the Zonin family are mentioned several times in the book (see an example in attachment).
Bill Nesto, founder of the Wine Studies Program at Boston University’s Metropolitan College, will present his book in New York at Eataly Flatiron next January 18th and in Florence at Chianti Classico Collection next February 13th and 14th.
Wine Spectator Senior Editor Bruce Sanderson rated our Castello di Albola Acciaiolo 2011 and it scored 94 points! The rating is now available in the Wine Spectator website.
